Slash was born into the Cimarron herd by his loving parents, Ozzy(a red roan mare) and Zeppelin(a black mustang stallion). Both were Lakota horses at one time. He weaned from his mother at 10 months old and was growing up fast. He was sleeping with his parents when Zeppelin heard someting in the bushes near them. There was a wolf who jumped for Ozzy and Zeppelin went to kill it. But, he failed. Ozzy was dead. Filled with anger, Slash pushed his father away and tried killing the wolf. Slash got slahed in the face by the wolf so he ran off, embarrased. He felt warm tears run down his face as he heard the end of the wolf, by his father, and the sound of the other horses going to check up on what happened. Slash ran away, for good. He never looked back, for he never would go back. He was just a yearling.
He ran as far as he could, through forests, cold streams, anywhere, under the moon and stars. But, daylight was upon him. He stopped to graze in a meadow, where there was a stream for him to drink in. He relaxed, and took a break. He let his past go. He jumped as he heard a whinny behind him. He turned around quickly to find a mare. But, she wasn't alone. He realized this as he felt something on his neck. He bucked and thrashed, but it was no use. After an hour of this, he settled down. He was brought to a place where there was a corral and many other horses. And, two-leggeds. He snorted and rolled his eyes. He was put into the corral and offered an apple from a Lakota boy.Slash backed up slowly with his ears back, tossing his head up. He didn't want anything from these strange creatures. He trotted around the pen in fear. What did he want to do with a young year-old stallion? Oh, give him an apple. But, how would Slash know if the apple was safe or not? But, he soon decided to see if the apple was safe. He walked up to the boy slowly and sniffed the apple. He took the apple out of his hands, and ate it. As he was eating eat, the boy brought his hand up to Slash's head. The big young stud tossed his head up into the air and turned away from the boy. If the boy wanted this young stallion's trust, he'd have to be patient.
